Instruction For Authors

International Scientific Conference
“Media Literacy in the Digital Age – A Cultural, Economic and Political Perspective”
Zagreb, 6-7 June 2014

Submission deadlines:
Articles should be submitted no later than 30 June 2014, to the following email address: media.literacy@hrstud.hr
Articles must comply with the following guidelines.
Two copies of the article must be submitted.

One copy of the document must include:
- Author’s name and academic degree
- Institution name and address
- Contact numbers (phone and fax) and email address (personal website)
- Title of article (in Croatian and English)
- Abstract and keywords (in Croatian and English)
- Complete article

The second copy:
- Cannot include personal details (because the article will undergo a blind review)
- Must include the abstract in Croatian and English (no longer than 1,800 characters) and keywords

Articles should be approximately 50,000 characters (8,000 words) in length.

The Times New Roman (12pt) font must be used; paragraphs should not be indented, nor should headers and footers be used.

All tables, graphs and images must be numbered using Arabic numerals in the order in which they appear in the article. Titles of tables, graphs and images must be provided in Croatian and English, and these should appear above (not below or inside) the accompanying visuals. Sources should be listed directly beneath the visuals on the right, if applicable.
Footnotes must be numbered consistently throughout the article, and should provide additional information, not samples of extensive writing. Articles need to be language-edited.

 

REFERENCE GUIDELINES

In-text citations:
In-text citations should refer only to sources listed in the reference list at the end of the article. The article can only cite data that were actually published (or include a note providing an explanation, i.e. a source which verifies the data). The following in-text citation format must be used: (Virilo, 1998), i.e., (Virilo, 1998: 45).

Reference list format (example entries):
Books: Virilo, P. (1998) La Bombe informatique. Paris: Galilée.
Book manuscripts: Golding, P. & G. Murdock (1979) “Ideology and the mass media: The question of determination”, 189-224. Ed.: M. Barett et al.: Ideology and the Cultural Production. London. Croom Helm.
Journal manuscripts: Ross, S. & Middelberg, D. (1998) “The Middelberg/Ross-Media in Cyberspace Study”, Medijska istraživanja, Zagreb, 4 (2), 141- 173.
Cited web pages must include retrieval dates.

Submissions which do not comply with these guidelines will be returned to the author for revision.

Review and publication: Submissions will undergo two or three blind reviews, following which the author will be responsible for implementing any modifications indicated by the reviewers. Modified submissions must be returned within 8 days of receipt. Papers which have received the best reviews will be published in a special themed issue of the scientific journal Medijska istraživanja / Media Research (abstracted in Sociological Abstracts (SA), Linguistic and Language Behavior Abstracts (LLBA) and Social Planning/Policy & Development Abstracts (SOPODA), and indexed in the Current Index to Journals in Education (CIJE) and SCOPUS).

Requirements: It is assumed that at least one of the authors has presented at the conference, and that the contributions have not been previously published elsewhere (in another journal, electronic publication or on the Internet), nor shall they be published without prior consent of the publisher. Authors whose work will be published in Medijska istraživanja/Media Research consent to having their papers available on the website.

Hrvatski studiji Sveučilišta u Zagrebu pokrenuti su i ustrojeni 16. studenoga 1992., isprva samo kao dvosemestralni Sveučilišni komparativni studij hrvatske filozofije i društva. Taj je program potom preoblikovan u program redovitog četverogodišnjeg studija.
