Vlatko Smiljanić was born on July 7, 1995 in Virovitica. He graduated from primary school and Petar Preradović Gymnasium in Virovitica. During his primary and secondary education, he participated in school, county and state competitions in history in the categories of knowledge and independent research work. He was the holder of the scholarship for excellence of the Virovitica-Podravina County. He performed the duties of a student-demonstrator in several compulsory and optional subjects. He was the president of the Association of History Students "Ivan Lučić Lucius" (2019-2020) and founder and first president of the Association for Student Project Activities "Studia Croatica" (2018-2019). He is the winner of the Rector's award for individual scientific work (2019), the Dean's award as the best student in the final year of the graduate study in History (2020), three Dean's awards for extracurricular activities (2017, 2018, 2019) and the Deans's award as the best student final year of undergraduate studies in History (2018). He graduated on July 7, 2020 with the thesis Contributions of the Parish and Franciscan Monastery of St. Roch for the development of educational activities in Virovitica during the 18th and 19th century under the mentorship of prof. emer. Ph.D. Mije Korade and earned the academic title of Master of Education in History. Since 2020, he is a student of the postgraduate doctoral study in History at the Faculty of Croatian Studies. The topic of the doctoral thesis The life and works of Mirko Danijel Bogdanić from 1760 to 1802 under the mentorship of academician Stjepan Ćosić he defended on July 7, 2022. Since October 2022, he has been the acting editor-in-chief of the scientific journal for Croatian culture, society and history Kroatologija.
