Biography

Viktoria Franić Tomić was born on October 19th 1978. in Metković. She attended elementary and high school in Ploče, studied Croatian literature and Slavic Philology at the University of Zadar. At the Faculty of Philosophy in Split she was elected 2007 as a research assistant on the project "Mediterranean in Renaissance literatures of the Slavs." She taught various subjects concerning Croatian and comparative literature, as well as history of European theatre in the Department of Croatian Language and Literature in Split. She participated in teaching those subjects: "Contemporary Croatian Literature", "Literature of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance," "Croatian literature in the early modern time”, "Reading of drama", "Geography and Literature", "Croatian literary canon." She finished her doctorial studies 2010 at the Department for the Advanced Studies at the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb. In the scientific position of associate she was elected in March 2011. and at the grade of the senior research associate was promoted in May 2013. In addition, she was a mentor of more than twenty papers at the graduate level mostly in the field of older and more recent Croatian literature. In the academic title of assistant professor she was elected on December 18, 2013th at the University of Zagreb by the National Council of the Humanities). In the academic title of associate professor she was elected on December  2018th at the University of Zagreb by the National Council of the Humanities).

She published eight books a comprehensive monograph Who was Marin Držić (Zagreb: Matica hrvatska, 2011), and collection of Dramaturgical essays: From Split to watch the scene (Zagreb, AGM, 2012), Sacrifice of Abraham, co-authored with S.P. Novak (Zagreb: Matica hrvatska 2015),and textbook Literature of Early Modern Time in the Kotor and its Bay (Zagreb:Hrvatska sveučilišna naklada, 2015)(University press of Croatia).  Croatian Medieval Literature. Vol. 1, Vol. 1: Ideas, Persons and Places of Literary Production, edited, written and selected by V. Franić Tomić and S. P. Novak (Zagreb: Liliput, 2019). Croatian Medieval Literature. Vol. 1, Vol. 2: Literary, Historical and Textual Laboratory 1, prepared and written by V. Franić Tomić and S. P. Novak (Zagreb: Liliput, 2019). Croatian Medieval Literature. She is the editor of the books: Festive Book: Marin Držić 1508-1567, (Dubrovnik: Litteris Zagreb, 2008), The Life and Work of Niko Andrijašević (Split: Naklada Bošković, 2014), Josip Tomić, Duvno in Croatian Literature, vol. 19, in collaboration with S. P. Novak (Zagreb: Liliput, 2020).

Viktoria Franić Tomić is a regular collaborator in the Vijenac, literary paper for art, culture and science of Matica hrvatska, then is associate of the Lexicographic Institute Miroslav Krleža, where she published numerous articles in Croatia Literary Encyclopedia and Encyclopedia of the Marin Držić. She has participated in numerous international and national scientific meetings, and was one of the leading organizers of the international conference" Marin Držić and our time" in 2008, currently editing a number of editions dedicated to literature and cultural history. One important result of her research was the discovery of the oldest Croatian theater illustrations (1518) in the town of Bagnocavallo near Ravenna in Italy. This discovery had echoed in the professional and the general reviews, as also books of Viktoria Franić Tomić were received with acclamation by the actual scientific community.

Hrvatski studiji Sveučilišta u Zagrebu pokrenuti su i ustrojeni 16. studenoga 1992., isprva samo kao dvosemestralni Sveučilišni komparativni studij hrvatske filozofije i društva. Taj je program potom preoblikovan u program redovitog četverogodišnjeg studija.
